Tree City USA Program

CITY OF IRVING INVOLVEMENT

More than 3,000 cities nationwide participate in the Tree City USA program. In 2009, the City of Irving earned the prestigious Tree City USA designation through strategic initiatives. Ongoing efforts, including annual observances, community forestry education programs, and other sustainability initiatives, highlight Irving's commitment to environmental care. This designation reflects the city's dedication to preserving and enhancing its environment.

TREE BOARD

Established in 2009, Irving’s 9-member Tree Board plays a key role in tree preservation and public beautification. The board contributed to the creation of Irving’s Tree Guide and advises the Parks and Recreation Department on tree replacement guidelines, Arbor Day events, and Tree City USA renewals. Key responsibilities include:

Promoting healthy, native trees
Providing replanting guidance for parks and public spaces
Reviewing beautification projects and supporting public awareness efforts.

The City is committed to growing a greener Irving.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Tree City USA program, sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters, provides direction, technical assistance, public attention and national recognition for urban and community forestry programs in thousands of towns and cities that more than 135 million Americans call home.
