The Process

Select a Position + Apply

  1. Job Listings: All available positions are posted on the City of Irving's official employment page. Prospective candidates can browse current openings and access detailed job descriptions.
  2. Online Application: Interested individuals must create an account and submit an online employment application to be considered for a position. The system allows applicants to track their application status and receive notifications about upcoming work opportunities.
  3. Application Screening: Applications are reviewed to ensure candidates meet the minimum qualifications specified in the job description.


The Interview Process

  1. Selection for Interview: Qualified candidates are selected. The interview process may vary depending on the position but generally includes one or more of the following:
  2. Panel Interviews: Candidates may be interviewed by a panel of city staff to assess their suitability for the role.
  3. Skills Assessments: Some positions may require practical tests to evaluate specific competencies relevant to the job.


The selection process typically takes a at least two to three weeks from the final closing date of the position, though it may take longer for positions that are open until filled.

Qualifications
Experience

Qualifications given in the job description represent only the minimum qualifications necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.


In addition to the qualifications, the minimum age requirement for regular full-time and part-time employment is 18, with the exception of Aquatic Center Lifeguard (Part-Time). Seasonal lifeguards may be hired at 15 years of age; the minimum age for other seasonal positions and Aquatic Center Lifeguard (Part-Time) is 16.
