An Irving library card gives the holder access to over one million items in the library’s collection. This includes:
Books, DVDs, Blu-Ray discs, music CDs, magazines, audiobooks, eBooks, online electronic resources (databases), streaming video, music downloads and special collections such as wi-fi hotspots and Little STEAMer early learning backpacks.
The following is a list of features cardholders may receive:
All items checkout for 21 days. Items in high demand, such as bestsellers or blockbuster movies, are available for a 10 day checkout.
For security reasons, library card numbers cannot be supplied, but replacement cards can be issued at any library location with a valid photo ID and the clearing of any overdue materials or charges. There is a $2.00 fee for a replacement card. Patrons who have simply forgotten a plastic card at home or temporarily misplaced it can access most library services with a photo ID or card number saved in a digital card app.
Library staff are unable to access a borrower's PIN. Cardholders who have an email address on file may apply to have a PIN reset link emailed to them. Cardholders can also present their photo ID at any library location to have their PIN manually reset.
If you need additional assistance, please call the library at (972) 721-2440 or send an email to Circulation@irvingtx.gov.
Materials may be returned at any Irving Public Library location. After-hours 24/7 book return windows are available at all library locations. Damaged materials should be returned and reported to a staff member at the checkout desk.
If materials are not returned on time, customers may not check out materials, use the public computers, place materials on hold, or renew library materials. Once the late materials are returned or charges are resolved, privileges are restored.
If items are not overdue or on hold for another customer, they may be renewed. Most materials may be renewed up to 3 times. Patrons can renew materials online with library card and PIN or call (972) 721-2580 for the automated renewal service available 24 hours a day.
If the item a patron wants is not currently on the shelf at their local branch library, they may place a hold on the item to have it delivered to the local branch when it is available. A Full Access card may have up to 20 holds at one time.
Holds may be placed using the library’s online catalog or by phone or chat. The library will notify the patron when the item is ready to be picked up either by phone or via email. Materials that are ready for pickup are held for seven days. Customers with late materials or charges on their account cannot place any hold requests.
A valid photo ID must be shown and account information verified to replace a lost library card. There is a $2.00 fee for a replacement card. Patrons who have simply forgotten a plastic card at home or temporarily misplaced it can access most library services with a photo ID or card number saved in a digital card app.
The Irving Public Library does not charge fines for overdue materials. The library does charge for lost or damaged materials; charges may include a non-refundable processing fee up to $5.00. Cardholder accounts with charges more than 75 days past due may be referred to the library’s collection agency and charged a non-refundable collection fee that the cardholder must pay to clear the account, even if the items are returned.
No refunds will be issued for payments after 60 days. Refunds require the original payment receipt(s). Processing fees are non-refundable. Lost items must be returned in good condition for a refund. All library card fees are non-refundable.
The registered cardholder is responsible for all materials borrowed on the card and agrees to abide by all library policies in effect. Call the library at (972) 721-2628 to promptly report a lost card or changes in address or phone information. The card is the property of the Irving Public Library.
