The City of Irving's Building Standards Program is dedicated to ensuring the safety, health and welfare of its residents by addressing and mitigating substandard and hazardous building conditions. This program focuses on the identification, assessment and abatement of structures that pose potential risks to the community.
A Scope and Schedule Form is a list of repairs that are needed and timeframes stating when the repairs are going to start and when the repairs will be finished.
An application/permit for the demolition of a structure and the capping of the sewer lines must be obtained from the Inspections Department before demolition begins.
View the Demolition Guidelines document for step-by-step instructions to prepare for demolition.
If Building Standards is involved, do I have to demolish my house?
No. You have the option to repair or demolish the house; you may also sell the house.
Do I need to come to a hearing if my address is on the agenda and I get a notice of a hearing letter?
It is recommended that you attend the hearing for your property. Your presence gives you the opportunity to stay informed and involved in the process. The hearing will happen with or without your presence.
If I demolish my house, do I have to demolish all of the accessory structures as well?
Yes, unless you will build a new house right away. Obtain all necessary building permits prior to starting any construction.
Integral to the program is the Building and Standards Commission, a body that convenes to deliberate on cases involving alleged violations of ordinances.
The commission typically meets bi-monthly on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. at City Hall, located at 825 W. Irving Blvd.
Check out meeting recordings on the the city's YouTube Channel.
