Launched in 2017, the Road to the Future program is a long-term initiative to rehabilitate, reconstruct and proactively maintain 1,440 lane-miles of Irving’s streets.
The program brings together the Capital Improvement Program, Traffic and Transportation, and Water Utilities Departments to:
Resident surveys consistently rank street improvements as a top priority. To address this, the Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) includes a dedicated revenue source — equal to 1 cent of the property tax rate — to fund street projects.
Additionally, growth in taxable values has increased the city's ability to issue bonds, supporting a $200 million investment in street improvements over 10 years.
