Medication Disposal Program

Safe disposal, safer community.

The Irving Police Department has implemented a medication disposal program to provide residents with a safe and secure way to dispose of unwanted and expired medications. Proper disposal is essential in reducing risks such as child poisonings, drug abuse, water contamination, and other hazards.

In partnership with the Recovery Resource Council, a drug disposal drop box is now located in the lobby of the Criminal Justice Center, 305 N. O’Connor Road. This secure container allows eligible medications to be safely disposed of at no charge. Please note that this service is available exclusively for Irving residents and is not intended for business use.

Additionally, the Irving Police Department will continue to host drug take-back events in the spring and fall, in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration and Walgreens. The presence of the drop box ensures that residents have a convenient, year-round alternative for safe medication disposal.

What to Do:

Separate acceptable medications from those that are not accepted (see lists below).
If possible, remove or obscure any personal identifying information from medication labels.
Deposit the medication in the drop box located near the jail information window in the Criminal Justice Center lobby. A Detention Officer is available to assist if needed.

Accepted Items:

Prescription medications, including narcotics (such as Oxycodone and Vicodin), medication samples, pet medications, and medicated ointments and lotions.
Over-the-counter medications, including cough syrups and allergy medications; vitamins; inhalers; and unopened EpiPens.

Not Accepted:

Needles and syringes, thermometers, IV bags or bloody/infectious waste.
Personal care products, aerosol cans, hydrogen peroxide or other chemicals, used EpiPens, iodine solutions, radioactive materials, products containing mercury, and empty containers.

This program reinforces the City of Irving's commitment to community safety by ensuring that medications are disposed of responsibly, reducing potential hazards for all residents.
