What is the best way to report code violations?
Whether you wish to remain anonymous or not, call Code Enforcement at (972) 721-4829. State the address and the conditions you are concerned about.
If you wish to be contacted, provide your name and phone number. A code officer will investigate your concerns no later than 5 p.m. the following business day.
Who is responsible for maintaining an alley or easement behind their property?
The property owner and/or tenants are responsible for maintaining the alley or easement free from high grass, weeds, trash and debris, as well as trimming tree branches back for 14-feet clearance. What is the maximum height for grass and weeds before they become a violation?
The maximum height for grass and weeds is 10 inches.
How many people may live in a single-family home?
The number of people is based on the number of bedrooms: Two people per bedroom, plus one additional person.
For example, a three-bedroom home = Seven (7) people maximum.
(3 bedrooms x 2 people/bedroom) + 1 additional person.
How many cars per single-family lot are allowable?
The Unified Development Code limits the number of cars parked on the property - legally parked in driveway or other approved paved areas - to no more than six (6) vehicles.
What constitutes illegal outside storage?
Generally, items that are not designed for outdoor use.
When in doubt, report to Code Enforcement for investigation.
Can vehicles be parked on the grass?
No. The only exception is when a vehicle is actively being washed.
What form do I need to replace the fence in my yard?
Prior to installing a new fence, the property owner must submit plans and a fence permit application for review and approval by the City of Irving Inspections Department, located on the second floor of City Hall, 825 W. Irving Blvd.
Where can I park my recreational vehicle (RV)?
The RV must be parked on an adequately-sized paved concrete or asphalt surface at all times, unless it’s effectively screened by a 6-foot blind fence or vegetation.
In addition, the vehicle cannot block the sidewalk, and RVs cannot be parked on the street.
My neighbor has been draining his swimming pool onto my lot. Who can I contact to stop this?
If the pool is draining onto private property, it is a civil matter between property owners.
