Urban Forestry Program
ABOUT THE URBAN FOREST PROGRAM
The Parks and Recreation Department is supported by a dedicated four-member Urban Forestry team, including a certified Arborist, who provide year-round tree maintenance across city parks and trails.
The team conducts tree surveys throughout Irving, organizes tree planting events with Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB) and local volunteers, and manages the city's Tree Farm.
During the surveys, the team identifies trees that need trimming or are unhealthy, diseased, or at risk of causing injury to visitors. When a tree is removed, the team replants a new tree from Irving's Tree Farm.
TREE CITY USA PROGRAM
The City of Irving was officially awarded the Tree City USA Designation in 2009. Since then, the city has conducted annual observances, community forestry education programs, and other ongoing initiatives that promote environmental sustainability
IRVING'S TREE FARM
Located in Mountain Creek Preserve, Irving’s Tree Farm is home to approximately 406 trees, including redbuds, cedar elms, and several varieties of oaks. Once mature, these trees are used to replace diseased or dying trees in city parks and along trails. Since 2019, 2,995 new trees have been planted
