Training Academy

The Irving Police Department Training Academy is a core component of the department's commitment to maintaining public safety through rigorous, ongoing training.

The 22,772-square-foot facility opened its doors in 1988 to train our personnel internally and to "host" training opportunities (PDF) on a wide variety of topics for personnel from other departments.

The facility includes a full-size gymnasium with free weights and a separate, enclosed area containing various types of workout equipment. The indoor seven-lane pistol range for training and qualification is complemented by a separately operated state-of-the-art "Prism" shooting simulator. A large training/meeting room can accommodate groups of up to 50 people. A retractable wall can partition the room for "break-out" sessions or multiple uses. Additionally, the academy has three state-of-the-art classrooms with theater-style elevated seating for up to 32 people each.

All classroom and meeting areas have multiple electronic audio / visual amenities and connections. The facility is located near an array of fine eating establishments and a variety of lodging accommodations (PDF)available for visitors from other agencies.

For a list of current scheduled training/classes, access the Training Academy Schedule (PDF).
