Senter Park Pool Groundbreaking
On Feb. 24, city leaders celebrated the groundbreaking of a state-of-the-art indoor aquatic facility at Senter Park Recreation Center. Moments later, construction crews began demolishing and clearing the 70-year-old outdoor pool to make way for the new building.
“We are re-envisioning how we want this aquatic center to be. It’s going to have all sorts of features that our residents can enjoy any day of the year, no matter the season.” said Irving City Manager Chris Hillman.
The $25 million facility will feature a leisure and lap pool, spiral waterslide, zipline, toddler pool and an outdoor sun deck. Additional amenities include a modern reception area, party rooms and locker rooms. The design will also pay tribute to the original 1954 pool, incorporating rainforest-themed children’s areas and hexagon-shaped lane markers.
As part of the project, the tennis court will be relocated to Senter Park East. However, residents will still have access to other park amenities, including the playground, picnic tables and shelters. The new aquatic center is expected to be completed in 2026.
Lee Park Pool Nearing Completion
Meanwhile, the new Lee Park Pool is in the final stages of construction, featuring a new waterslide and a variety of other enhancements. The revamped facility is scheduled to open in May, just in time for summer fun.
Both projects are key components of the Let’s Play Irving: Elevating Aquatics & Recreation initiative, which includes plans for the Lee and Senter Park pools as well as the future multi-generational Mustang Park Recreation and Aquatic Center.
