Can vehicles be parked on the grass?
No. The only exception is when a vehicle is actively being washed.
When may trash be placed at the curb for pickup?
No earlier than 24 hours prior to your scheduled pickup.
If a scheduled trash collection day falls on a holiday, does the trash still get picked up?
No. It will be picked up on your next regular collection day.
Is a permit required for a garage sale?
Yes. Garage Sale Permit Applications may be filled out on the City of Irving website. Two garage sales are allowed per calendar year.
What if I need to cancel my garage sale?
Garage sale permits may be canceled up until 7 a.m. the first day of the sale. Simply go to the Garage Sale Permit Application and select Cancel Garage Sale in the dropdown box.
Who is responsible for maintaining an alley or easement behind their property?
The property owner and/or tenants are responsible for maintaining the alley or easement free from high grass, weeds, trash and debris, as well as trimming tree branches back for 14-feet clearance. Who is responsible for cutting and edging the grass between the sidewalk and street?
The property owner and/or tenants are responsible for maintaining this area up to the street including the curb.
What is the maximum height for grass and weeds before they become a violation?
The maximum height for grass and weeds is 10 inches.
What is outside storage?
Household furniture, trash, building materials, tools, toys, equipment, car parts and items not intended or designed for outdoor use should be stored in an enclosed building or removed.
Are address numbers required on your house if already displayed on curb?
Yes, address numbers must be on the structure and be visible from the street.
If you have a rear entry way, the numbers must be placed in the back in a location that is clearly visible from the alley or rear entrance.
Is a fence permit required when replacing or repairing a fence?
Yes. All new or replacement fences require a permit. For further information, contact the Inspections Department at (972) 721-2371.
When may garage sale or temporary signs be displayed in right of way?
From 12:01 a.m. Thursday to 12:01 a.m. Monday. Signs cannot be placed on telephone poles, street signs, trees, fences, on medians, state highways or access roads.
Can I park a commercial vehicle at my house?
No. Oversized commercial vehicles such as a vehicle of three axles or more, a bus, truck tractor, tow trucks, cargo van or bobtail truck with a cargo space of more than 720 cubic feet, and commercial vehicles with a rated capacity in excess of one and one-half ton are not allowed in residential neighborhoods.
If a vehicle has an expired inspection or registration sticker is it considered a junk motor vehicle?
No. A junk motor vehicle must be lacking a valid registration or inspection; either wrecked, dismantled, partially dismantled, or discarded; and has remained inoperable for more than 30 consecutive days.
