National Night Out
A "Going Away Party" for Crime
National Night Out is held each year to encourage people throughout the nation to come outside and join their neighbors in giving neighborhood crime a “going away” party. Texas is the only state, for now, that is celebrating this program during the month of October.
National Night Out in Irving is a community-focused event designed to strengthen relationships between the police department and local residents. Held annually, the event brings together community members, elected officials, local businesses, and law enforcement in a safe, informal setting to share information, build trust, and promote public safety.
The program features a range of activities, including safety demonstrations, informational booths, and interactive sessions where residents can directly engage with police officers. Through these activities, participants learn about crime prevention, neighborhood watch programs, and emergency preparedness. The event also provides an opportunity for the police department to communicate important updates on local crime trends and community initiatives.
Along with the traditional “lights on” and front porch vigils, cities and towns across America celebrate NNO with a variety of events and activities such as:
- Block parties
- Cookouts
- Flashlight walks
- Parades
- Safety demonstrations
- Visits from local police
By fostering a collaborative environment, National Night Out in Irving aims to create stronger community bonds and encourage a proactive approach to public safety. The Irving Police Department views this event as an essential part of its commitment to transparency and accountability, ensuring that all citizens have a voice in maintaining a secure and thriving community.
