Motorcycle Unit

The Motorcycle Unit consists of 12 officers and 2 sergeants focused on proactive traffic enforcement. Emphasis is placed on hazardous violations, particularly on Irving’s highways, in high-accident areas, and school zones. Officers also assess traffic complaints submitted by the public and implement targeted enforcement plans when necessary.

DWI Unit

This specialized unit includes 4 officers and 1 sergeant dedicated to Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) enforcement. In addition to responding to fatal and serious-injury crashes, they investigate all intoxication-related offenses. The unit also delivers educational presentations to schools, corporations, and community organizations to promote DWI prevention.

Crash Investigations Unit

The Crash Investigations Unit is comprised of 3 officers trained in advanced crash investigation techniques. They investigate all fatal and major injury collisions, as well as hit-and-run crashes—unless suspended in the field due to a lack of leads.

Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit

The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit works to ensure the safe and efficient movement of commercial traffic on Irving’s roads. Their mission includes:

  1. Conducting organized commercial vehicle inspections
  2. Educating drivers and the public on the dangers of distracted and aggressive driving
  3. Promoting compliance with safety regulations on highways and local streets
