Most Commonly Found Violations by Code Enforcement
  1. Grass or weeds over 10 inches tall
  2. Vehicles or trailers parked on unpaved surfaces
  3. Accumulations of trash
  4. Tree limbs or bushes blocking sidewalks
  5. Vehicles that do not run stored or parked in driveways

When a violation is observed, a code enforcement officer issues a Notice of Violation (NOV) that provides information on the nature of the violation, the required remedy and the deadline for correction. When an NOV is received, it is important for residents to communicate with the issuing officer. Officers have the ability to work with residents on compliance plans and are available to provide more information about the concern and possible solutions.

The goal of Code Enforcement is resolution and compliance, not enforcement and citations. If violations are not corrected and no communication occurs, the officer may issue a citation or arrange for mowing or clean-up at the property owner’s expense. However, this is considered a last resort and only occurs in a small number of cases.
