North Nursery Corridor

The North Nursery Corridor was selected as a pilot project for the City of Irving's Neighborhood Planning Initiative.


The initiative is designed to:

  1. Improve communications between residents and City Hall.
  2. Empower residents and stakeholders to define the future of their community.
  3. Ensure that the city's plans, particularly regarding future land use, match the needs and desires of the residents within each of Irving's neighborhoods



This area was selected for a number of reasons:

  1. Ready identification of potential neighborhood leadership team from the four formerly active Neighborhood Associations in the area.
  2. Potential for pockets of redevelopment due to its proximity to Planned Unit Development (PUD) #6 to the north.
  3. Its adjacency to future expansion of the nearby downtown-area Heritage Crossing to Loop 12.
  4. Several major roadway corridors through the area
  5. Prevalence of older apartment complexes and single-family homes in need of improvement.

Corridor Boundaries

The North Nursery Corridor covers the area south of Belew Street, east of Britain Road, north of the Rock Island Railroad line and west of Irving Heights Drive.


This focus area is home to approximately 9,500 Irving residents and encompasses:

  1. Approximately 818 acres
  2. 1,634 assorted single family homes and duplexes
  3. 2,255 apartment units or townhomes
  4. 92 mobile homes.
